PALM COAST TILE
Turning a tub into a walk-in shower
Many homes in Palm Coast still have a tub in the main or guest bathroom that hardly gets used. Replacing it with a walk-in tile shower makes the room easier to use every day, especially for anyone who finds stepping over a tub wall difficult.
The part that matters most is the part you never see: the waterproofing behind the tile. In Florida humidity, a shower that is not built right can leak into the wall for years before anyone notices. We build every converted shower from the studs and waterproof it before any tile is set.
THE PROCESS
How a tub-to-shower conversion is done
Every bathroom is different, but most conversions follow these steps.
Tub and wall removal
The old tub and the wall tile or surround come out down to the studs, so we can see what is behind them and fix any damage.
Plumbing changes
The drain and valve are moved for the new shower. Plumbing work is done by a plumber.
Shower pan and waterproofing
A sloped shower pan is built so water runs to the drain, and the walls and floor are waterproofed before tile.
Tile, niche and finish
Wall and floor tile go in, with a niche for shampoo, an optional bench and grab-bar blocking if you want it. Glass is installed last.

OPTIONS
Choices to make for your new shower
These are the decisions most homeowners make during a conversion.
Curb or curbless
A low curb is the most common. A curbless shower is easier to step into and is a good choice for aging in place, when the floor allows it.
Niches and benches
A built-in niche keeps bottles off the floor. A bench is useful for shaving legs or sitting down.
Grab bars
We can put blocking in the walls while they are open, so grab bars can be added now or later in the right place.
Tile and glass
Large-format wall tile means fewer grout lines. Glass can be a fixed panel or a door, depending on the size of the shower.

F.A.Q
Frequently asked questions
How long does a tub-to-shower conversion take?
It depends on the size of the shower, the plumbing changes and what we find behind the old tub. We give you an expected timeline with the estimate.
Can I still use the bathroom during the work?
No, the bathroom is out of use while the shower is being built. If it is your only bathroom, tell us and we will plan around it.
Will removing my only tub hurt resale value?
It depends on the house. Many buyers are fine with one tub in the home. If you are unsure, we suggest keeping a tub in at least one bathroom.
Do I need to buy the tile myself?
You can. Many customers pick and buy their own tile. If you have not chosen yet, we can tell you what suits the room and how much to order.
How do I get an estimate?
Call or text (386) 237-7999 with a photo of the tub and bathroom. We set up a time to see it, measure and then give you a price. The estimate is free.
