PALM COAST TILE

Tile installation in Daytona Beach condos and homes

Daytona Beach has a large number of condominiums, particularly along the oceanfront. A tile job in a condo uses the same materials as one in a house, but it comes with requirements a house does not have: approval from the association, sound control under the floor, and limits on when and how work can be done.

If you own a condo, the first half of this page is for you. If you own a house, skip to the section on single-family homes.

CONDOS

What to sort out before tiling a condo

Most delays on condo projects come from paperwork and logistics. These four items are worth settling before any tile is ordered.

Association approval

Most associations require written approval before flooring is changed. Ask the management office for the flooring rules and the application early, since approval can take time.

Sound underlayment

Buildings commonly require a sound-rated underlayment under tile or other hard flooring on any floor above the ground level, and specify the rating it has to meet. The underlayment has to be chosen to match what your building asks for.

Working hours and access

Associations usually set the days and hours when contractors can work, and require the service elevator to be reserved for materials and debris.

Water shut-offs

Bathroom work that involves plumbing may need the water turned off to more than one unit, which is arranged through building management.

Common condo tile projects

These are the projects condo owners ask about most often.

Replacing carpet or old tile with new flooring

Tile through the main living area, laid over the required underlayment. Where the building’s rules or the budget favor it, luxury vinyl plank is an alternative.

Bathroom updates

Condo bathrooms are usually compact, and replacing a tub with a tiled walk-in shower is a frequent request. See shower tile installation.

F.A.Q

Frequently asked questions

Do you install tile in condos?

Yes. Tell us it is a condo when you call, and which floor it is on, because the building’s rules affect the materials and the schedule.

What is a sound underlayment, and do I need one?

It is a layer installed between the concrete and the tile that reduces the noise passed to the unit below. Whether you need one, and what rating it must have, is set by your association’s rules, so check those first.

Who gets the approval from the condo association?

The owner applies, since the association deals with owners. We can provide the product information the application usually asks for, such as the underlayment specification.

Can tile be installed on a balcony?

Balconies are generally controlled by the association, and many buildings restrict what can be installed on them because of waterproofing and weight. Ask the management office before planning any balcony work.

Do you serve Daytona Beach from Palm Coast?

Yes. Daytona Beach is south of us in Volusia County and is part of the area we work in.
