PALM COAST TILE
Tile installation in DeLand homes
DeLand has some of the oldest homes in Volusia County, many of them built on raised wood floors, alongside newer neighborhoods built on concrete slabs. The two need different preparation before tile, and getting that part right is what keeps tile from cracking later.
We travel to DeLand for tile work regularly. Tell us a little about the house and the room when you call, and we will set up a time to come out, measure and talk through the project.
OLDER HOMES
Tiling over a wood floor
Tile is rigid and wood floors move. In an older DeLand home these four things decide whether a tile floor lasts.
Floor stiffness
A floor that bounces when you walk on it will crack tile and grout. We check the floor and recommend stiffening it first if needed.
Backer board or membrane
Tile does not go straight onto wood. A cement backer board or an uncoupling membrane goes down first to give the tile a stable base.
Floor height
Adding backer and tile raises the floor. We plan transitions at doorways and check clearances for doors and appliances.
Older bathrooms
Old bathrooms sometimes have soft spots near the tub or toilet. Damaged wood is found and dealt with before new tile goes in.

F.A.Q
Frequently asked questions
Do you work in DeLand?
Yes. We are based in Palm Coast and travel to DeLand and the rest of Volusia County for tile projects.
Can tile go on a wood floor in an older house?
Usually, if the floor is stiff enough. We check it at the estimate and tell you if anything needs to be done first.
Will new tile make my floor higher?
Yes, by the thickness of the backer and tile. We plan the transitions at doorways and check door and appliance clearances.
Do I need to buy the tile myself?
You can. Many customers pick and buy their own tile. If you have not chosen yet, we can tell you what suits the room and how much to order.
How do I get an estimate?
Call or text (386) 237-7999 with the room and a few photos. We set up a time to see it, measure and then give you a price. The estimate is free.
